Maya Kulenovic is a Canadian painter, living and working in Toronto.

She was born in 1975 in Sarajevo, (SR Bosnia and Herzegovina), SFR Yugoslavia. Maya Kulenovic has exhibited in over twenty solo exhibitions and over fourty group shows and art fairs Canada wide, in the US, The Netherlands, UK, Ireland, Japan, South Korea and Turkey. Her paintings can be seen in numerous collections around the world.

She studied art at London University of the Arts (at Chelsea College of Art and Design) in London, England (Masters of Arts 1998), Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto (AOCAD Honours, 1997) and Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul (1992-1995). She is also an alumna of London Goodenough College in London, England (1997- 98).

Inspired by the life, beauty and mortality, in her paintings there is a constant dialog between spontaniety and control. Her technique comes from the tradition of old masters, which she studied for many years. The paintings by Maya Kulenovic are hard to photograph. The image is created by light from within, which emerges through layers upon layes of thin glazes and transparent paint eroded and rebuilt, in sometimes intentional but often incidental manner.
